Toronto Needs Rental Housing
August 2018 – July 2019: Canada’s Population Grew by 531,000
-
- This growth is having an enormous impact on the housing market
- Nearly 60% of the new population took place in Ontario & British Columbia
- Toronto nees 9,100 more vacant units to reach a “healthy” vacancy level of 3%
- Toronto will need 22,000 apts to meet demand between 2019 & 2023
- Currently Toronto is not meeting the amount of rental units required
- This means rents will continue to rise+
- Even though it seems there is a building boom in downtown Toronto, actually less housing is now being built than in 2002
- Co-living is a solution being proposed
