Toronto Needs Rental Housing

August 2018 – July 2019: Canada’s Population Grew by 531,000

• • This growth is having an enormous impact on the housing market
  • Nearly 60% of the new population took place in Ontario & British Columbia
  • Toronto nees 9,100 more vacant units to reach a “healthy” vacancy level of 3% 
  • Toronto will need 22,000 apts to meet demand  between 2019 & 2023 
  • Currently Toronto is not meeting the amount of rental units required
  • This means rents will continue to rise+
  • Even though it seems there is a building boom in downtown Toronto, actually less housing is now being built than in 2002
  • Co-living is a solution being proposed
